Korean skincare for oily skin: heartleaf BHA peeling pads

Korean Skincare Routine for Oily, Breakout-Prone Skin (5 Simple Steps)

Oily skin that breaks out easily is the skin type most likely to be over-treated. Harsh scrubs, stripping cleansers and five strong actives at once usually make things worse: skin feels tight, then makes even more oil. Korean skincare takes the opposite approach. Keep the barrier calm, exfoliate gently and regularly, and hydrate with lightweight layers instead of heavy creams.

Here's a simple routine that works for most oily, breakout-prone skin. You don't need ten steps.

Morning routine

1. A gentle, low-pH cleanser

In the morning you only need to remove sweat and leftover night products. A mild gel cleanser is plenty. The COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser is a long-time favourite because it cleans without that squeaky, tight feeling.

2. A soothing toner

Pat on a calming toner to rehydrate after cleansing. Heartleaf (houttuynia) is the go-to Korean ingredient for skin that gets red and reactive. Try Anua Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner.

3. A light serum or ampoule

Centella asiatica (cica) is ideal here: lightweight, calming and suitable for most skin. The SKIN1004 Centella Teca Ampoule absorbs quickly and doesn't feel greasy.

4. Sunscreen

Every morning, even if it's cloudy. Choose a light, fluid formula that you'll actually wear every day.

Evening routine

1. Double cleanse

Oil cleansing sounds wrong for oily skin, but it's the best way to dissolve sunscreen, makeup and excess sebum without scrubbing. Massage an oil cleanser onto dry skin, add water to emulsify, rinse, then follow with your gel cleanser. Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil is made for exactly this.

2. Gentle exfoliation, 2–3 times a week

BHA (salicylic acid) is oil-soluble, so it reaches into pores to keep them clear. Pre-soaked pads make it easy to use the right amount. Try celimax Ji Woo Gae Heartleaf BHA Peeling Pads on clean, dry skin, then continue with your routine. Skip them on nights your skin feels sensitive.

3. Hydrate

Oily skin still needs water. Snail mucin essence is a lightweight way to add bounce and moisture: COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence.

4. Moisturize lightly

A gel cream seals in hydration without clogging. The SKIN1004 Centella Teca Cream or belif Aqua Bomb Frozen Cream both suit oily skin.

For the occasional blemish

Hydrocolloid pimple patches protect a spot from picking and bacteria while it heals, and they're easy to wear overnight. A big pack like the Rainbow Star & Heart Pimple Patches (714) lasts for months.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Skipping moisturizer. Dehydrated skin often produces more oil.
  • Exfoliating every day. Two or three times a week is enough for most people.
  • Adding everything at once. Introduce one new product every week or two so you can tell what works.
  • Picking. Use a patch instead.

FAQ

How long until I see a difference?

Give a new routine about 4–6 weeks. Skin needs time to adjust, and changes are gradual.

Can I use BHA and other actives together?

Keep it simple when you start. Use BHA on its own on two or three evenings a week, and avoid combining several strong exfoliants on the same night.

Should I see a professional?

If breakouts are painful, deep or leave marks, it's worth talking to a dermatologist. Skincare can support your skin, but it isn't a medical treatment.
